First Year, Personal

summer months

I guess it’s kind of been a while.

Lots of stuff happened. I’m taking a business class and might attempt to start a small website business in the fall. Pretty fun.

I’m also a substitute librarian at the main library here in Portland. I’m super excited about this one. It’s torture and wonder to work in a place so full of knowledge. I love to see what people want to read, and setting folks up with new library cards is a lot of fun.

I’m also volunteering for the adult education classes during the summer. It’s pretty humbling to work with an African woman – someone who is from Burundi and has a completely different perspective on things. I feel as if our American lives must look so petty and silly compared to the suffering they have to deal with in Africa. I’m learning a lot from her.

I’m working on my novel for the first time in quite a while. I’ve been doing a lot of research to back up the pieces that match our world. It’s fun. It will be interesting to see what I do when the time comes to actually write it!

The summer has gone by pretty quickly. I can’t believe it’s almost August. I can’t believe I work at a library. I can’t believe I’m so lucky.
